How to Express Interest
Students interested in Prof. Simpson's Computational Electrodynamics Lab should email Prof. Simpson expressing their interest and including their resume / CV. This ensures that Prof. Simpson will be aware of the application once the University makes it available to her Department. Due to the high volume of emails from prospective students, Prof. Simpson may not be able to respond to every individual email, but she does try to respond to each one.
Students wishing to join the lab as a Ph.D. student should typically have at least one first-author journal or conference publication, and should be highly motivated to become a future leader in computational electrodynamics or a related field.
Current and former students in the lab have earned awards such as the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship, the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society Pre-Doctoral and Doctoral Research Awards, the American Association of University Women Fellowship, and the National Consortium MASINT Research Scholarship. Graduates from the lab have accepted positions in industry, academia, and government, including Intel Corporation, Apple Inc., Air Force Research Labs, the COMSOL Group, Singapore's Institute of High Performance Computing, Northwestern University, University of Florida, and the National Nuclear Security Administration's Future Leaders Program.

Living in Salt Lake City
- The lab is in the Merrill Engineering Building (MEB), 50 S. Central Campus Dr., Salt Lake City. The nearest bus routes are 2, 6, and 11.
- Supermarkets nearest to MEB that students typically use:
- Smith's — 455 S 500 E and 876 E 800 S
- Sprouts Farmers Market — 216 S 700 E
- Harmons — 135 E 100 S
- If you do not own a car, consider an apartment between MEB and these supermarkets. An apartment near a TRAX (light rail) station is also a good choice; TRAX runs to Smith's, the stadium, and the airport. You will have a few minutes' walk to MEB from the TRAX stations.
- All students receive free public transportation with their student ID card.
- You can join the International Student Council (ISC) mailing list and post a message asking about available rooms.
- You can also apply for on-campus housing, but request a room early, as rooms fill up quickly.
