Bio

Joel B. Harley is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, UT. His interests include the integration of complex wave propagation models with novel signal processing, machine learning, and big data methods for applications in cyber-physical systems, structural health monitoring, nondestructive evaluation, and other fields.

Dr. Harley is a recipient of the the University of Utah's Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering 2016 Teaching Award, the University of Utah's 2016 Career Services Mentoring Award, the 2014 Carnegie Mellon A. G. Jordan Award (for academic excellence and exceptional service to the community), the 2009 National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) Fellowship, the 2009 National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship, the 2009 Department of Homeland Security Graduate Fellowship (declined), and the 2008 Lamme/Westinghouse Electrical and Computer Engineering Graduate Fellowship. He has published more than 40 technical journal and conference papers, including four best student papers. He is a student advisor for the IEEE Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control Society, the president of the IEEE Signal Processing Society Utah Chapter, a member of the IEEE Signal Processing Society, and a member of the Acoustical Society of America.

Responsibilities

Prof. Harley is responsible for designing the course, teaching lectures, generating online lecture notes, holding office hours, building lab assignments, writing homework, and grading quizzes. If you have any questions about the course, feel free to contact him.

Farhan Nasrullah: Teaching Assistant

Bio

Farhan is a PhD student at the University of Utah. He completed his B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Islamic University of Technology, Bangladesh in 2011 before working as a freelance research assistant at the Material Science lab of the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology. After that he worked for a telecommunication company in Bangladesh for a few years.

Farhan is an eager technology enthusiast and a voracious reader of topics on productivity and futurism. In his free time (!), he likes to watch movies and travel new places.

Benozir Ahmed: Teaching Assistant

Bio

Benozir Ahmed received his B.Sc. degree from Iran Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Dhaka, Bangladesh, in 2013, and the M.S. degree from Tuskegee University (TU), Alabama, USA, in 2017, both in electrical engineering. His M.S. research was on different topologies of power electronic inverters.

He started as a Ph.D. student at the University of Utah from Fall 2017. His research interests include Micro-Electromechanical Systems, nanodevices, and fabrication techniques.

Shashank Pandey: Teaching Assistant

Bio

Shashank S. Pandey was born in Allahabad, India in 1986. He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur in 2010. In 2012 he joined the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Utah as PhD student under Dr. Carlos Mastrangelo where he is currently working towards his PhD degree. His research area includes MEMS, microfluidics, BioMEMS, microsensors, and microactuators.

Naren Viswnathan: Teaching Assistant

Bio

Naren Viswanathan is a PhD student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Utah currently working under Dr. David Schurig in millimeter wave imaging. He received his Bachelors' degree in Electrical Engineering from Amrita University, India in 2011. His areas of interest include Metamaterials, Antenna design, and Imaging techniques. Outside of work, he enjoys photography, music, and travelling.

Saeed Boroomand: Teaching Assistant

Bio

Saeed is a master’s graduate of university of Tabriz, Iran in electronics (Nano) engineering. He has also a year of experience in teaching Telecommunication Circuits and Optical Communication Basics. As a Ph.D. candidate at University of Utah, he is especially interested in energy solutions for future (solar cells, fuel cells, to name some) as well as nano sensors’ fabrication and characterization. Outside His academic hours, he might want to challenge you in Ping-Pong!
