4:00 Wake up and pack.
4:30 Lobby - We wait for our driver and check out. The drive out
of town is really beautiful. The sun is still below the horizon but lights
up the landscape just enough to sihlouette the trees. If it weren't for
all of the car exhaust I'm breathing in I would be in heaven.
7:30 We drive to the Bandipur National Park and sign up for a safari. On this safari we sit on the back of a bus we share with a crowd of Indian people. The ride is really bumpy. Along the way we see deer and wild elephants. Word on the bus is that there are black panthers in the park but I guess I'm not really sure if they are refering to the animals or the civil rights group.
After we get back to the station Emma and I begin to hand out a stash of pens, given to me from a friend, to all of the villager children who are on their way to school. After Ember returns we are back on the road to Ooty. The drive is fantastic! It is incredibly green and the higher up we go into the mountains, the more it begins to look like the mountains of Europe - almost like the photographs my Swiss friend, Gabi, sent to me from Basel. After awhile we find ourselves so high up in the mountains that we are driving through the clouds. It is really moist and quite chilly. Pretty soon we arrive in Ooty. It is so green here. It is also cold and wet. We didn't prepare ourselves for this. We only thought of the hot and dry. We later learn that Ooty is more of a resort town - much like Park City is in Utah. It is viewed by surrounding towns as high class area of sorts. In fact, it is half-jokingly called Snooty Ooty by many.
We soon find that our hotel is tha farthest up the mountain. It is
kind of an odd place. First of all, because of the way it is situated on the
mountain side, all of the rooms are below the lobby. Second, we are about the
only people staying there. Third, there seems to be a dungeon below all of
the rooms.
10:30 Room - We take a nap. We choose a nap because we are unprepared
for the cold wet rain and can't really find much else to do.
13:30 I wake up because I am hungry. Ember and I head down to the
lobby and have the buffet. This is where I have a dream come true. We finally
get to have some vanilla ice cream - and as much of it as we want. Unfortunately,
our stomachs have become so small that neither of us are really able to eat much.
Bummer! We head back down to the room to see Emma. She is still resting so
we head down to the game room (a.k.a. The Dungeon) and play badmiton, basketball,
tic-tac-toe, and some Indian board game that plays a little like pool. Afterwards
we head back up to the room and watch movies all night. All this because of
how cold it is.
22:30 The girls snooze. I eventually call it a night but I have
trouble sleeping the whole night.
